| Breast implants
are made of an outer soft shell filled with either: |
- Saline (salt water) – Saline implants are
available for all breast augmentation candidates.
- Silicone Gel – Only women involved in FDA-Approved
studies for breast reconstruction are eligible for silicone
gel filled implants.
|
| Variations of
Saline Filled Breast Implants: |
- Smooth Surfaced – Smooth implants are less
easily felt through the breast skin and therefore more
natural feeling.
- Textured – Textured implants were created
to help decrease capsular contracture or scar tissue formation
around the implant.
- Anatomical – Anatomical implants are shaped
longer vertically than horizontally. The surface is textured
and is more costly.
|
| Factors Determining
Implant Size: |
- Current breast size and volume.
- Breast skin mass.
- Breast skin elasticity.
- Patient height, weight and chest diameter.
